Restaurant with ski-in/out guest rooms in Champéry Planachaux
Le Chaudron is one of the first hotels and restaurants to be built in the Portes du Soleil, Europe's largest ski area.
Situated in the heart of the mountain pastures, it is at the crossroads of the Crosets and Léchereuse downhill runs; It has always been a popular meeting point for skiers in winter and for mountain bikers and walkers in summer.
The resort's promoter, Ernest, was a key figure here, welcoming locals as well as stars such as Johnny Halliday and the world-famous Austrian skier Toni Sailer, nicknamed Black Lightning from Kitz.
Enjoying exceptional views of the Dents Blanches, Col Bretolet and Col de Cou, the complex also faces the Chavanette wall, one of the obligatory passages on the way to Avoriaz in France.
The building dates back to around 1960, when it was first constructed. Several buildings were subsequently added to the complex, which now boasts more than 1,000m2 and a volume of over 5,000m3.
The building is of the traditional brick and concrete construction type, with a timber-framed exterior.
