Van Dam | 2003 (2014)
Built by Van Dam Nordia and designed by Robert Van Dam, Sultana is a custom bluewater ketch delivered to an experienced owner in 2003. Her construction followed an exacting brief for a vessel capable of coastal cruising and offshore passages, combining a strong aluminium build, a safe ketch rig and systems specified for reliability at sea.Sultana features Hall Spars masts, Reckman headsail furlers and Lewmar winches, while her ketch sail plan divides power across two smaller mains, keeping loads manageable and making reefing and trimming more controlled in heavy weather. A protected cockpit offers a sheltered position when underway and serves as the primary social space on deck at anchor. Her interior is traditional in style with an open galley, comfortable seating and a large screen forming the main living area. The joinery shows Dutch workmanship in both guest and crew spaces, and ventilation, stowage and equipment are arranged with usability in mind.Sultana accommodates eight guests in three en suite cabins: the owner’s cabin aft offers generous space, while the two guest cabins each sleep three. Crew spaces forward and aft support three crew.Sultana is powered by a single 425 hp Lugger engine with an engine room often compared to those on much larger yachts. Major works include new teak decks and a full repaint (2014), rebuilt machinery (2014), updated navigation instruments (2021), full line replacement (2022), serviced cockpit winches (2023) and serviced hydraulic furlers (2024).
