S'Arraco, a small town in the municipality of Andratx, is in the valley of the same name, between the neighboring valleys of Andratx and sa Palomera. From the existence of some possessions, such as Son Joan, at the beginning of the 18th century, the urban nucleus began to be configured around the Santo Christo chapel built by Antoni Ferrandell Verí, considered the founder of the town. From the outside of the church, which was erected as a parish in the mid-19th century, the tower with pointed windows and the rectory are remarkable. Inside, the Holy Christ presides over the main altar and the image of the Virgin Mary that comes from the old monastery of La Trappe stands out in one of the side chapels.
Most of the townhouses are located along the road from Andratx to San Telmo, which enters the valley through the Coll de S'Arraco and, after crossing the town, exits through the Coll de la Palomera. Of the urban complex, there are several modernist-style houses that we built by arraconers who emigrated to France. Also noteworthy are the old school building and three bars that are meeting points for the townspeople: Can Nou, Can Viguet, and Can Prima. At present, S'Arraco has a population of about a thousand inhabitants, including a significant number of artists of different nationalities who have chosen this peaceful valley as their place of residence. S'Arraco is an obligatory step to discover the coastal town of Sant Elm and the island of Sa Dragonera.
It is also an excellent starting point for various excursions on foot, such as the one that begins 150 meters after the cemetery and goes up to La Trappe. The town is also connected by a recently renovated road that connects with the road that goes from Andratx to the Port. The patron saint festivities are celebrated around August 28th, the feast of San Agustín. The festive events usually last until September 8th, when the festival of the Virgin de la Trappe is celebrated.
